No matter if you love to text, hate it or fall somewhere in between, it’s useful to be aware of Pinger. This free application can change how, when and where you send and receive messages. Pinger has a few fun features that many texting apps don’t have, and you can use it for texting on an iPod Touch. Pinger cannot completely replace this native texting application. Although you can register your phone number with Pinger and receive texts to that number in the Pinger interface, you won’t be able to send a text from your number through Pinger. This is because Pinger has its own network that must be accessed through an Internet or Wi-Fi connection. A message sent to your cell phone number uses your mobile carrier’s network, so Pinger must retrieve it from them in order to deliver it to you. Pinger can’t access your carrier’s network to make a call or send a text from your number. If you want to use Pinger instead of a native texting application, you must instruct all of your contacts to use your Pinger number instead of your cell phone number. This might not be an issue if you don’t use your phone for voice calls or if you only text on your iPod Touch. Writer Bio
