Turn off your Compaq Presario, if it is on, and locate its headphone port – the port contains a picture of a set of headphones or the wording “Headphone” above or below it. The headphone port is on the front, back or side of your computer. You can also connect a set of audio speakers to the speaker out port – the port contains a picture of sound waves beaming up and down with an arrow to the right of the waves. The wording “Out” is to the right of the arrow. The speaker out port is on the back or side of your computer. Note, not all Compaq Presario computers contain a speaker out port. Place one speaker containing a 1/8-inch connector next to one side of your computer. Place another speaker on the opposite side of your computer. If using speakers that do not contain a 1/8-inch connector, plug the speakers’ audio cable into a 1/8-inch connector to composite Y adapter. If audio speakers contain more than two speakers, place the additional speakers equally on either side of your computer away from each other to achieve a surround sound effect – four or more in the front of the computer and four or more behind the computer. All of the speakers, except for the one containing a single audio cable connected to computer, are connected to the one containing the single audio cable. Plug the speakers’ single audio cable or the adapter’s 1/8-inch connector into your Compaq Presario’s headphone or speaker out port. Plug in the speakers’ power adapter into an electrical outlet and press or turn on the power button on the speakers’ front panel. Turn on your computer. Click the speaker icon on the system tray next to the clock to adjust the speakers’ audio level to your liking. Click the “Mixer” link below the audio level meter to mute the speakers or adjust audio levels of specific areas on your computer including system sounds and Internet browser audio levels. If your external audio speakers contain their own audio level control, adjust it to your liking.
